
Getting the Heat Right in Your Husky HyPET System
If you’re running a high-speed PET line, you already know the headache: the heating phase is almost always where things go sideways. When a preform doesn’t heat all the way to the core, you end up with wonky wall thickness or, worse, bottles that just fail. It’s frustrating. That’s exactly why we built our quartz halogen tubes—to stop that “cold core” problem in Husky HyPET systems. Getting the heat where it actually belongs Most standard lamps just scorch the outside of the plastic while the inside stays cold. Not great. We fixed this by shifting the spectral output toward short-wave infrared. Think of it as pushing the energy deeper into the plastic rather than just skimming the surface. We messed around with the tungsten filament density and the gas fill to crank up the heat flux. The result? The temperature stays consistent across the whole wall of the preform. The tough stuff High-speed lines are brutal on equipment. To keep these tubes from warping under all that thermal stress, we use high-purity fused quartz. These things are designed to pump out a lot of wattage in a very small space. But here’s the catch: when you push that much power through a short tube to hit your cycle times, things get hot. Fast. You’ve got to make sure your oven’s forced-air cooling is actually doing its job. If the cooling dips, these high-output tubes can chew through your sockets or warp your reflectors. It’s a lot of power, so you have to manage it. Swapping them in The good news is these are drop-in replacements. They fit right into your Husky setup. We use precision-ground ends so they sit snugly in the holders. If a lamp is misaligned, you get “hot spots,” and nobody wants that. Installing them is pretty simple, but do me a favor: check your contact tension. If the connections are loose while you’re running high current, you’ll get arcing that kills the lamp ends. It’s a small check that saves a lot of money. Look, this setup is all about raw penetration. We aren’t trying to save a few pennies on the electric bill here. It’s a trade-off. You get faster cycles and bottles that actually look right, but your cooling fans and electrical gear will be working a bit harder. For most of us, that’s a trade we’re happy to make.
