
Keeping it Warm (Without the Blinding Glare)
When you’re putting a heater in a nursery or a bathroom, the heat isn’t actually the hard part. The real headache? The light. Standard infrared lamps are basically spotlights. They’re harsh, they’re blinding, and if you’re talking about a baby’s developing eyes, that kind of Glare is a big no-no. Nobody wants to feel like they’re standing under a stadium floodlight while they’re trying to relax in a bath or put a child to sleep. The trick is in the glass. We use special quartz tubes with filters that act like a gatekeeper. They block out that aggressive visible light but let the warmth—the mid-to-far infrared waves—slide right through. You get all the cozy heat you need, but the light stays soft and dim. It feels natural, not clinical. Then there’s the moisture. Bathrooms are basically steam rooms. That’s why we stick to an IP55 rating. In plain English: we’ve sealed the thing up. Between the silicone gaskets and the tight cable entries, steam can’t sneak inside to mess with the wiring. Without that seal, humidity eats away at the terminals, and before you know it, you’ve got a short circuit or a dead heater. Not a great look. Now, there is a small trade-off. Because we’re filtering the light, you won’t get that “instant scorch” feeling you get from an industrial halogen lamp. It’s a bit more gradual. It’s a penetrating warmth that settles in rather than hitting you like a wall of heat. If you’re the one installing these, just keep in mind you might want a slightly higher wattage or a larger unit to get the room up to temperature. One last thing: please, do yourself a favor and wire these into a dedicated circuit with a GFCI breaker. The IP55 shell handles the splashes, but the real safety happens in the walls.
