Getting the Heat Right for PET Preforms
If you’re running a KOSME KSB 6000 or a Husky HyPET, you already know the struggle. The bottleneck is almost always the same: heat penetration. It’s a balancing act. You need the core of that preform to hit the glass transition temperature, but you can’t do it by torching the outer skin. That’s exactly why we built our replacement lamps. We wanted to fix that thermal gradient headache once and for all. The secret is in the spectrum. Most standard lamps just dump energy onto the surface. It’s too much, too fast. We switched things up by using a specific short-wave infrared spectrum. Instead of sitting on the surface, the heat actually pushes deeper into the PET. The result? You can keep your cycle speeds high without worrying about “pearlization” or ending up with bottles that have wonky wall thickness. Will it fit? Yes. These are drop-in replacements. We matched the footprint of the KOSME KSB 6000 perfectly, so the heat stays focused right where it belongs—dead center on the preform. One heads-up, though. These lamps use a treated quartz envelope to handle high wattage densities. Because we’re pushing more energy through a smaller area to get that deep penetration, these tubes run hot.Really hot. Do yourself a favor and check your oven’s airflow and cooling fans. If your cooling system is clogged with dust, these high-output tubes will burn out way faster than they should. Keep them clean. Swapping them out We used industry-standard connectors to keep things simple. No rewiring your racks, no fancy tools. Just pull the old tube out and slide the new one in. It’s that easy. And here’s the best part: when your heat penetrates better, you can usually dial back the overall oven temperature and still hit your target core temp. That takes a massive load off your chillers and stops you from wasting electricity. Just one last tip—keep an eye on your voltage stability. High-wattage quartz filaments are sensitive. If your power grid is spiking, it’ll eat through your lamps. Keep the power steady, and these will treat you well.
