If you’ve spent any time around KHS or Sacmi SBF 12 machines, you know the frustration of uneven heat. One minute everything is fine, and the next, you’re staring at bottles with weird wall thickness or deformations that just shouldn’t be there. It’s a headache. We build our replacement infrared lamps to kill those “cold spots” for good. We focus on the actual thermal footprint your PET preforms need when you’re running at high speeds.
The Nitty-Gritty on Heat
Here’s the thing: you can’t just throw any lamp in there. If the voltage or wattage is off, you’re either going to fry your power supply or leave your preforms under-heated. We use high-purity quartz glass because it lets shortwave radiation sink deep into the PET. But there’s a catch. When you put a high-wattage tube in a tight oven, the heat density gets intense. If your cooling fans aren’t up to the task, the ends of the lamps will overheat and snap. It’s a brutal environment.
Getting the Heat Right
Most generic lamps are a joke. They blast heat in the center and leave the ends cold. We fixed that by changing how the filament is wound, which flattens the heat curve. The result? Your preform gets heated evenly from the neck all the way down to the base. Plus, we use standard R7s or SK15 connectors. They just slide right in. No rewiring your racks, no fancy tricks. Just swap them and go.
Real-World Use
These lamps are built to take a beating in 24/7 production. We’ve optimized the halogen cycle to keep the filament alive longer. But I’ll be honest with you—there’s a trade-off. If you crank the voltage to the max, sure, your cycle speed goes up. But you’ll be replacing those tubes a lot sooner. We usually suggest a balanced voltage setting. It keeps the thermal field steady and stops you from burning through your inventory every few months. It’s the easiest way to keep your scrap rates down and your sanity intact.
